Villa La Roche

Rehabilitation of an old barn

Direct mandate – delivered

Location | Rochebaudin (26) Drôme, France • Client | private • Type | Renovation and extension of an old tobacco barn • Project Period | 2008 – 2011 • Surface Area |  800 m²

Initially, a tobacco drying barn converted into a garage, practical thanks to its 4-metre-wide opening, was transformed into a living space for a family. The key element of the project is this large passageway, which creates symmetry and a tunnel of light running through the villa. The ground floor, bright and open to the outside, contrasts with the upper floor, which is more introverted and shaded. The connection between these two worlds is achieved through the deformation of the upper slab, which reaches down to the ground floor, while respecting the specific characteristics of the site, which is listed as a historic monument.
