For several years now, the municipality of Scionzier has been engaged in a process of urban regeneration, of which the recent transformation of the town centre represents the first stage. As part of this ongoing effort, the redevelopment of the Château de la Croix park is restoring the former grounds, which had been lost to make way for a bar-turning factory – once the flagship of an industry emblematic of the Arve Valley. Abandoned for many years, this industrial wasteland is now giving way to new uses: a park, a bandstand and a new view of the château.

Restoring the Château’s grounds is the main focus of the project. The demolition of the former factory has revealed 3,400 m² of permeable ground and enabled the launch of a biological decontamination programme using mycoremediation. In line with the principles of the circular economy, the project prioritises the reuse of materials recovered from the demolition. The concrete, sorted and crushed on site, is transformed into aggregates and then reused in the new developments: the path along the main diagonal, the foundations of the landscaped amphitheatre and the large blocks of the entrance pavilion.

In this way, materials from the former factory become the raw materials for a new landscape, structured around an elevated walkway, a bandstand and a landscaped amphitheatre, with the Château de la Croix as a backdrop. The park combines resource efficiency, industrial heritage and the promotion of local heritage, whilst offering new spaces for socialising and activities in the heart of the town.
