Stone & Wood Champel

New temple and thirty new dwellings in Geneva city center

2nd price – invited competition

Location | Quartier de Champel (GE) Switzerland • Client | Geneva protestant federation • Associate architect | CORPUS • Type | Temple and dwelling • Construction period | 2022 • Surface area | 6 865 m²

The project supports the major densification process of the plot by introducing a new temple and thirty new housing units. Its aim is to integrate harmoniously into its context, respecting the tripartite composition of the surrounding buildings while distancing itself from their mineral expression. Whereas the existing structures define the edges of the block, our project takes place within a densely wooded inner courtyard. Embracing this distinctive feature, the project seeks to engage in dialogue with the trees by adopting a timber architectural language.
